Our volunteers have done it again! Support for Operation Santa '09 came in from across the nation resulting in our largest effort to date! The fifth annual Operation Santa concluded with a total of 42,400 stockings filled for deployed Armed Forces. The project finished 2 days early and 20% higher than its original goal of 35,000 stockings thanks to 1000's of volunteers from across the country. A total of 50,000 stockings were crafted by our volunteers. The excess will start us towards Op Santa 2010. • The stockings were shipped to Iraq, Afghanistan and numerous destinations in foreign countries • The Peoria Jewish Federation conducted the 2nd annual Operation Macabee and provided 300 Hanukah sacks for Jewish soldiers • Support of two K-9 units totaling 57 four-legged warriors by way of dog beds and treats was part of this year's Operation Santa • Bloomington/Normal stuffed 6104 for their second year • Decatur, Illinois hub held their first annual Op Santa and contributed 1710 stockings Our project now totals over 112,000 stockings to troops serving abroad and is the largest of its kind in the nation. Here are some suggestions for Operation Santa 2010: Stockings: • Purchase Christmas fabric as it goes on sale in January/February. • We suggest cotton prints of Christmas, patriotic, sports or cartoons. • Please keep stockings bright and cheerful. Optional: cuff, loop, decorated. • Please no glitter. Cards: • Save the front portion of your Christmas cards. These can be used to write notes of encouragement to troops. • Address your note to Dear Hero and thank them for their service and include any personal message. • Teachers, please proof cards from students before sending. Thank you! • Purchase Christmas cards when they go on sale after the holidays • Envelopes are optional • No stamps necessary Stuffing items: • Begin collecting non perishables • All items must be travel size • We cannot use full size • Shampoo, pocket tissues, lotion • No soap or conditioner Operation Santa is one of several projects under the auspices of Citizen Support for America's Military.
